RIDE THE MOUNTAIN YEAR-ROUND
Breckenridge Ski Resort* isn’t just a winter destination—it’s an all-season base for outdoor activities. In the colder months, the resort spans five peaks and features nearly 190 ski trails, catering to every level and skillset. Beginners can stick to the greens, while more advanced skiers and snowboarders can choose from steeps, bowls, and terrain parks. There’s a ski school for first-timers and children, as well as 35 lifts to help you make the most of your day on the slopes.
When the snow melts, the resort transforms into a summer playground. The free BreckConnect Gondola* takes you straight to the top of Peak 8, where you’ll find trailheads for mountain biking and hiking.
For a fee, visitors can gain access to multiple activities at the family-friendly zone Epic Discovery.* The area features alpine slides, a ropes course, and the Gold Runner Coaster, a ride that lets users control their speed as they head down the mountain.
HIKE TO THE TOWN’S MOST FAMOUS RESIDENT
The Trollstigen Trail leads to Isak Heartstone, a 15-foot wooden troll sculpture tucked into the trees that can be accessed directly from downtown Breckenridge. It’s a fun warm-up or cool-down walk, especially if you’re easing into your trip. The trail winds gently through the forest, giving you a quick sense of the mountain setting. It’s also a very popular choice with families. To avoid crowds, consider going before 10 AM or after 5 PM .
GET YOUR STEPS IN ON THE BLUE RIVER TRAIL
This scenic paved path runs through the center of town, offering a flat, well-maintained route for walking, running, or biking. You’ll follow the river, pass pine trees and wildflowers in the warmer months, and get glimpses of the surrounding peaks year-round. The Blue River Trail connects to other towns if you’re in the mood for a longer ride. It’s also ideal for a leisurely morning jog or a casual family stroll.
EXPLORE A STRETCH OF THE FAMOUS COLORADO TRAIL
Less than 5 miles from downtown, you can access one of Colorado’s most iconic long-distance trails. The local segment of the Colorado Trail features sweeping mountain views and terrain that ranges from mellow to moderately challenging. It’s a solid option for a half-day hike or a trail run if you’re looking to stretch your legs and spend a few hours among this awesome scenery.
MAKE TIME FOR LAKE DILLON
Located about 12 miles from Breckenridge, Lake Dillon offers numerous opportunities to stay active. In the summer, paddleboards, kayaks, and sailboats take over the water, while the surrounding trails and bike paths give you a chance to explore the lake at your own pace. It’s a quieter complement to Breckenridge’s high-altitude trails and an accessible spot for low-impact movement with big-sky views.
KEEP YOUR ROUTINE UP AT THE REC CENTER
The Breckenridge Recreation Center* has everything you’d want in a mountain-town gym: cardio and weight equipment, a climbing wall, an indoor track, tennis and pickleball courts, plus a pool with lap lanes and a whirlpool spa. It’s ideal for cross-training, strength work, or swimming a few laps after a day outdoors. Visitor passes are available.
DON’T SKIP RECOVERY TIME
With so many ways to stay active in Breckenridge, it’s just as essential to make time to rest and recharge. A soak in the resort whirlpool spa or heated pool can go a long way toward easing sore muscles and getting you ready for the next day's itinerary.
Breckenridge also has a few oxygen bars if you're feeling the effects of the city’s high altitude. The O2 Lounge, Blue Sage Spa, and Harmony Health Massage & Wellness Spa all offer brief sessions designed to expedite recovery.*
